How to: Exfoliate your body.

Sounds pretty simple, right? As far as I'm concerned, you cover yourself in a gorgeous body scrub and voila - you've exfoliated! But, I never asked myself why we need to exfoliate.
According to skin care experts at St Ives, "Regular removal of 'skin debris' is essential to aid the secretion of sebum, which provides fatty acids that the skin needs to fight harmful germs and infections. It also gives a shine or glow.
I love body scrubs. Take the time to choose one that's just right for you! Here's my collection of body exfoliators that I'm currently working my way through - any excuse for a pamper night! Sorry the picture isn't too great!

Here we have Soap&Glory's Sugar Crush Body Scrub - smells so delicious! Sanctuary's Salt Scrub which I am yet to try, although my mum advises me not to scrub too hard as it can be quite harsh. Lastly Along Came Betty's one polish body exfoliator which smells gorgeous! These are my pink exfoliating gloves which I recently picked up at Poundworld - I wonder if they are meant to be mismatched?! They really come in handy though!
Using either a loofah or exfoliating gloves, squeeze your body scrub into your palms. Start at the bottom with your ankles and work your way up! Use a seperate exfoliator which is designed just for your face, as body scrubs may be too harsh on your face. It is usually advised to exfoliate between one and three times a week, depending on your skin. Anything more may irritate the skin.
As an alternate, you can use a natural bristle brush with no products. Focus on the back of arms and thighs. It's called dry skin brushing. This round wooden brush has soft bristles to gently massage and exfoliate the skin. It removes dead skin cells, helps stimulate skin microcirculation and is ideal for dry skin that needs regular exfoliation. It's available at The Body Shop, I'd definately give this a try!

After exfoliating all over your body, don't forget to moisturize! I love to use Soap&Glory's Smoothie Star Body Milk after a bath or shower as it smells purely amazing! And of course it moisturizes too!

Do you use exfoliator? x
