Creating Fresh Content Without New Products.

As a blogger myself, I can often find myself tempted to buy things purely to blog about. I may not even be that interested in the latest release, but I know that my readers might like to see swatches, so I should buy it, right? Wrong! I think this is a mistake I have been making over time, of course I would never buy something that I didn't have any interest in, but maybe something that other bloggers are talking about so I feel like I should buy it too. A bit like keeping up with Joneses, if you get me. I'm happy to say that I've grown out of this. I only buy beauty products, fragrances and toiletries when I really want them and when I've researched them properly. You may be seeing the 'bigger' bloggers with loads of new beauty releases to talk about whilst you're raiding your makeup bag - but remember, lots of 'bigger' bloggers will be receiving PR samples that we might not.

What I am trying to say is that it doesn't matter if you don't have the newest makeup, skincare or fragrances. You don't need the newest Marc Jacobs fragrance to look like a good blogger - you just need fresh ideas, products you already love and of course, if you want the Marc Jacobs fragrance and you can get a blog post out of it too, then it's a win win situation! If you're stuck for blog post ideas and you're wishing you could splash out on loads of new makeup but your bank balance just says no, then I've got a few ideas for you.

My favourite posts to write are wish lists. They are so easy to make and you can get as creative as you want! Choose a theme, do a 'get the look' for celebrities fashion and makeup. Interview other bloggers. Raid your makeup bag and talk about what you've already got. Write a poem, article or short story - something that you'd enjoy reading yourself. Do some baking and take pictures. Show readers pictures of your life - a bedroom tour, childhood memories posts etc. Write about your favourite holiday with lots of photos. Show your favourite makeup looks, get creative. Just remember, there's always lots of new posts to write without it having to be new products. Try not to feel pressured and write whatever makes you happy.

  8. I couldn't agree more with you. It's hard sometimes to not feel pressured to splash out on new products thinking you could be behind on the times. At the end of the day, our readers come back because they like us as people and respect our opinions on things. <3

  11. I agree with what you're saying, it can get very expensive if you keep buying all the latest new releases, I write so many different posts now, not just beauty related or it would get so expensive

  12. I love this post! Even though I write about travel related topics on my blog, I have found myself in quite similar situations like you. How may times have I gone into Boots wanting a new product simply because I've seen loads of bloggers and youtubers having it. It took me some time to realize what was actually going on and I've kinda grown out of that now.. but it's crazy if you think about it.

  17. I absolutely agree with you here... I am always tempted to buy, and sometimes I give in - more practical things - but most of the time I don't... I do struggle with figuring out what to post... I like your idea of wish lists.. question though: do you just get photos from the internet? one thing I try to do is improve my photography, but I can't do this if I'm doing a wish list.. help?

  19. Love this, you give some great ideas! I'm a sucker for buying new products all the time (especially Lush, so much Lush...) but there's so much content you can create for free if you just think outside of the box :) x
