As a blogger myself, I can often find myself tempted to buy things purely to blog about. I may not even be that interested in the latest release, but I know that my readers might like to see swatches, so I should buy it, right? Wrong! I think this is a mistake I have been making over time, of course I would never buy something that I didn't have any interest in, but maybe something that other bloggers are talking about so I feel like I should buy it too. A bit like keeping up with Joneses, if you get me. I'm happy to say that I've grown out of this. I only buy beauty products, fragrances and toiletries when I really want them and when I've researched them properly. You may be seeing the 'bigger' bloggers with loads of new beauty releases to talk about whilst you're raiding your makeup bag - but remember, lots of 'bigger' bloggers will be receiving PR samples that we might not.
What I am trying to say is that it doesn't matter if you don't have the newest makeup, skincare or fragrances. You don't need the newest Marc Jacobs fragrance to look like a good blogger - you just need fresh ideas, products you already love and of course, if you want the Marc Jacobs fragrance and you can get a blog post out of it too, then it's a win win situation! If you're stuck for blog post ideas and you're wishing you could splash out on loads of new makeup but your bank balance just says no, then I've got a few ideas for you.
My favourite posts to write are wish lists. They are so easy to make and you can get as creative as you want! Choose a theme, do a 'get the look' for celebrities fashion and makeup. Interview other bloggers. Raid your makeup bag and talk about what you've already got. Write a poem, article or short story - something that you'd enjoy reading yourself. Do some baking and take pictures. Show readers pictures of your life - a bedroom tour, childhood memories posts etc. Write about your favourite holiday with lots of photos. Show your favourite makeup looks, get creative. Just remember, there's always lots of new posts to write without it having to be new products. Try not to feel pressured and write whatever makes you happy.
