The perfect finishing touches to your work uniform

The perfect finishing touches to your work uniform

Some work uniforms can be a little bit plain and uninteresting. This can be a problem, wearing anything you aren’t really a fan of can really hinder your mood and motivation, which when you’re at work can be an issue.

Simon Jersey explain why adding accessories and finishing touches to a uniform are important and what to keep in mind when making sure you look your best at work.

Splashes of colour

Adding a splash of colour to a uniform can really help it to stand out, adding a seasonal flair and helping to tie your workwear to a business.

Use colours that tie to your employer, scarves, headbands or tops in a colour that matches the business or its branding are a good place to start.

This can just brighten a uniform up a bit more than normal and add a sense of fun, which is often the difference between enjoying work and having a shift that feels like it is dragging.

Layers

The Great British weather can be unpredictable, you never know if it is suddenly going to be colder than you expected. This is why when it comes to your uniform, that you should always have something ready to help keep you warm.

Some businesses provide hoodies, fleeces and jackets, sometimes it might be as simple as finding a cardigan or jumper that you can wear that compliments your regular uniform.

This could be something simple and plain that doesn’t draw attention to itself, or it could be something slightly more stylish to fit in with the tone of where you work. That might mean a chic bolero if you work in a beauty salon, or a slightly thicker top than normal just to take the chill out of the air.

The right shoes

You need to make sure you have the right footwear for your job, if your job involves you being on your feet all day you should take the time to find something that makes this easier. Think comfort first, fashion second. Nothing can make a shift last longer and hamper a mood worse than being tired and uncomfortable.

The main thing to keep in mind here is if you work in an area that has specific footwear requirements, such as a specific type of sole or steel toe caps.

Making the most of a uniform doesn’t have to be complicated, knowing what you can and can’t do, based on the rules for where you work, is crucial. This can help guide you towards specific colours, materials and designs to help you make sure you get to be comfortable, while still looking good.

Hush Premium Mattress Review

Recently I was a very lucky lady and had the chance to review a brand new premium mattress from Hush. Now I will be honest and say that I was not expecting to be blown away by a mattress – but I most definitely was. As always with any review, I promise to review the mattress honestly, and if I was not happy with its quality or anything in particular, I wouldn’t review it or would point out any changes that I think could be made. I know how hard we work for our money so I would never recommend something that I wouldn’t have been happy with. I moved out towards the beginning of last year, trudging with me in the back of my partner’s van was my trusty old mattress. Fast forward a few months and here I am each night lying on a luxurious premier memory foam mattress!

Hush created their premium mattress which features full size springs and foam – for pure comfort! The mattress is available in four different sizes with prices beginning at £370. I must admit that I am not too educated on the price of mattresses and what is a good deal, but with the double I have retailing at £520, it may seem pricey upon first impression but it honestly is worth the money as it will last for years and I would have been happy to save up for it myself. If only we could try out these mattresses before buying as it’s rather hard to guess online isn’t it?! The mattress is topped with a deep layer of a next generation foam. When my partner and I first had a test of this, it felt so much higher and sturdier than my usual rather flat mattress! I felt myself sink into the memory foam straight away and couldn’t believe how much of a difference that it made to my sleep. I find it so much comfier and I feel this has helped my quality of sleep – which is so important to all of us.

Delivery is free to Wales, Scotland and England and the mattress actually comes squeezed into a box that was smaller than I am, meaning you don’t have to lug the whole mattress up the stairs like the Chuckle Brothers. Now, here comes the fun part – you open the box, unwrap the wrapping and the mattress automatically begins to unravel, making an awesome bubble wrap popping noise and it inflates across the bed – it was like a magic trick! It was so easy to use, it’s ridiculous! All we had to do was take the box upstairs, open the box and ta-dah, here’s our brand new super comfy memory foam mattress!

All in all, I can honestly recommend Hush as a brand that I would be more than happy to purchase from myself and I think that’s the most important point when writing a review. I feel like my quality of sleep has improved since sleeping on it each night and it feels like a real treat going to bed – the only problem I can report is having to get out if it in the morning when the alarm goes off! Thank you so much, Hush!

I'm finally back for a new post and today is all about helping others and charity. I know that lots of us get a buzz from helping others and it really makes me feel good inside knowing that I have made a difference to somebody's day. Today marks the first day of 'Christian Aid's Big Brekkie 2017' which runs from 14th - 20th May. In a similar way to holding a Macmillian coffee morning at work or at home, Christian Aid are asking us to hold a breakfast morning where ever you fancy it and to show your support to the campaign and to refugees.

You can hold the breakfast where-ever you like, invite whoever you like and most importantly - eat whatever you like! You could charge a small entry fee to collect some spare money for the charity. You could be creative and have a tropical themed breakfast with mocktails (or the real deal) to pretend you're on the beach or go for a good old traditional fry up, the choice is yours. You can sign up here to receive a completely free fundraising pack which will include recipe cards and balloons.

Let me know if you or anyone you know decides to sign up!

Lee Stafford Academy Hair Straighteners

Recently I was lucky enough to try out and review on my blog a lovely new pair of Lee Stafford hair straighteners. I've always loved using Lee Stafford hair products over the years - I remember using them religiously as a teen! However I was yet to try any of their electrical products as I tend to stick to what I know. The straightener I was given to review is the Academy Ionic Flat Hair Straightener from Amazon. I currently use my GHD's so I promise to give you a proper review as the Lee Stafford straighteners are a bit more reasonably priced depending on your budget.

As you can see the straightener arrived in gorgeous, sleek box with the classic shades of brightly coloured pink boxing around the actual pair of straighteners. There's nothing like a bit of gorgeous packaging is there? It gets my attention straight away and always gives me that little buzz of having something new - and double brownie points if there's pink involved! The straighteners themselves are sleek, black and matte and they heat up super quickly by heating up in just ten seconds which is perfect for when we're in a rush in the mornings before work! You can choose the heat of your straighteners from the lowest temperature of 80 to 230 - I'm afraid I always go to the highest temperature to make sure my hair gets as straight as possible - not forgetting my heat protection spray of course! I found that the straighteners worked really quickly to make my hair smooth and I felt that the nano silver iron plates really glided through my hair without leaving it feeling damaged. Please excuse my poor describing skills here – but I feel the plates have a firm grip on the hair meaning that my hair will straighten quicker and I then use less heat as I don’t have to keep going over the same strand of hair to make sure it’s completely straight. I also noticed a difference in how long my hair stayed poker straight – sometimes my ends can go a little flyaway throughout the day but not with these! The straighteners also come equipped with a heat protection guard making it easier to carry the straighteners with you when you travel and have only just used them – I think they could have improved here by including a heat protection mat too?

The straighteners currently retail at £79.99 which may not be dirt cheap if you’re on a budget like I am – but so far I honestly think they have more staying power than my current GHDs which retail at around £115, so I am happy to honestly say that I believe they are worth the money- and I’d never say that if it wasn’t true as we all know how frustrating it can be to spend a lot of money on a product that you then don’t get on with at all.

What's your favourite hair straightener? x

Home Decor #3: The Garden

Spring is finally upon us and as the weather is gradually beginning to brighten up, my fiancé and I have been giving our first ever garden a makeover. When we first moved in, we pretty much neglected it at first as it was full of overgrown bushes with lots of work to be done and of course the most important thing was to get the inside of the house looking spotless before we could even think about starting on the outside! My partner has been hard at work over the past month or so, digging out all the old bushes, cutting trees down, putting down gravel stones, making a rockery and soon we’re pulling up the old patio and replacing it with a brand new one. So whilst he has been hard at work on the physical side of things, I’ve been busy wondering how to decorate the garden! I’ve seen this lovely furniture set from Fishpools which would look amazing next to our patio doors. I am so excited for when we can finally sit outside in the evenings and enjoy our garden when it’s all ready to go. I’ve also been thinking about the smaller decorations such as ornaments, plaques and I couldn’t believe how cute this picnic condiment set was from B&M – perfect for a barbeque!

Home Decor #2: Silver Glitter Bathroom

Bath Accessories // Mirror // Bin // Blocks // Relax // Sparkle Plaque // Toilet Brush // Glitter Tile Grout

I've always loved making wishlists and if you've been following my blog for some time, you'll know that already! I've recently become interested in following home decor posts and creating new themes and ideas that I can use around my home and also share with others. When we moved into our house, we completely renovated the bathroom and I decided on a theme of black glitter. My fiance did it all by himself and did an amazing job - I love it so much! I have sparkly black glitter tiles and of course I then accessorized with lots of glitter accessories. You may be thinking that decorating a bathroom doesn't sound too much fun but once you decide on a theme, it's all systems go and you get to choose lots of pretty things to make it look as cosy as possible - especially if you have a bath, you want to create a nice and cosy environment.

We had spotlights fitted to the ceiling of our bathroom and we also bought a huge Hollywood mirror for the wall which is very similar to the the one linked above. It looks amazing if I do say so myself and really adds to the glamours effect of the room. Pebble Grey have a wide range of mirrors available to help you complete this - you could either supersize like I have or have a smaller version on display as you do your makeup each morning! As I said, my bathroom is black glitter themed but for a change and an excuse to go nosing at more house products, I decided to go for a silver glitter theme for this post - I hope you enjoy! x

5 Things That Happen When You Become A Cat Mum

My boys: Arnold (L) & Sylvester (R)

1) You are a mother now.
So, you may not have given birth to your cat, but they love you as if you did, so let's go with it anyway. Being a cat mother comes with many responsibilities - take them to after school clubs, packing their lunches etc - ok not really, but you still need to fill up those cat bowls three times a day (no Whiskas for mine unless I'm in the mood for cleaning up interesting things in the litter tray), provide them with fresh water, clean their litter trays, let them out and back in - the possibilities are endless, but they come first now!

2) I can't come out, I have a cat.
Ok of course you can go out in the nights and leave your cat to roam about the house freely - in fact they probably wouldn't even notice you left the building never mind care - but you might just find yourself wanting to stay in more and more because, well, the cat needs you.

3)You will become cat obsessed.
Ooh, a cat magnet! A cat mug. Oh my gosh, a jumper with cats on it. That's how your life tends to go. So much so, that I even subscribe to a cat magazine. Yes, you read that right. Ooh look a cat! Stop and cuddle it immediately.

4) You'll become overprotective.
A cat in your garden, how cute! Wait, he must leave immediately - he's stepping on my cat's turf! Shoo! Shoo! My cats will be going outside for the first time next week so I'll be watching them from the window like an overprotective mother and making sure they have a kiss each before they go!

5) You'll choose to buy them treats rather than yourself.
A new lipstick with my last fiver? Oh but my kittens could really do with a new bag of Dreamies and a new toy mouse, so I better go with that choice instead! Who'd have thought it eh?!

Home Decor #1: Yellow

As I want to turn my blog into more of a 'home' blog, I've decided to put a new twist on my usual wishlist posts which I always love making. As well as my themed wishlists, I'm creating my own new series of 'Home Decor' and each time I'll bring you lovely products that I've found. I have lots of decor ideas in my head what with different colours, rooms and themes, I can channel my creativity and put each and every one of them into a wishlist style post showing you how you can style your home - and as always I'll be on the look out for bargains! For my first in the series I've gone with the colour yellow. Yellow always used to be my favourite colour as a child and I always remember having a light yellow jumper on it with white daisies that I loved so much. My sister has recently been adding in some yellows to her kitchen to brighten it up for Spring so I thought I'd pick out some of my favourite yellow items that are new on the high street.

My Dream Honeymoon Cruise Destinations*

I am yet to book my own wedding, never mind a honeymoon but that doesn't mean I can't dream does it?! My favourite holiday of all time has to be when my partner and I visited the Centara Ras Fushi Resort in the Maldives in April last year. It was magical and hard to believe that such a place of beauty actually exists! I'm definitely thinking that for our honeymoon we should go back to the Maldives, but I can also keep my options open too! With travel in mind, I thought I'd share with you  Cruise Club UK where you can book last minute cruise deals and not forgetting it's Valentine's Day tomorrow - who knows, maybe we'll get whisked away to somewhere exotic? Okay, maybe not, but who's to say we can't imagine?! I've never been on a cruise before and it's something that I'd love to try one day as you can wake up one day and be in a completely different place and then somewhere else the next - I love how varied that is. I'm suprised at how much choice there is to be honest, I wasn't expecting that you could visit all these places in one trip. Also I think it's great that you don't have to be hopping between airports and planes and being sandwiched up like sardines on a plane with that person in front of you leaning their seat back!!

1) Being a girl on a budget the first cruise that definitely caught my eye were the deals for under £599 - bargain! That would be a pretty last minute deal for around two months notice but there are lots of last minute cruises to choose from. I still think that's pretty good going and plenty of time to get your bikini and sunglasses packed. There are so many different exotic locations of cruises to choose from and in all honestly I think they are pretty reasonably priced (which is just what  I need!).

2) There's a 24 night Carribean cruise which takes you to St Lucia, Grenada and St Kitts as well as lots more locations - now that would be an amazing honeymoon! (Not that I'd be allowed off work that long though!!) I can just see me now in my sunhat and bikini stopping off at all these amazing locations with a cocktail and a good book in my hand - it's like something only the celebrities would get to access eh?!

3) Dubai stay - how amazing would it be to visit Dubai? They have such a different culture to us that I think it would be really interesting to see - although it seems to becoming a cool place for the reality stars to be papped on the beach these days!

4) Oh my gosh, Hawaii! A 16 night hawaiian holiday, yes please! Ever since seeing S Club 7 go to Miami and threw a Honolulu party, I've always loved the look of it - especially wearing a hula skirt and a coconut bra haha! On that S Club note, I just found Miami 7 on Youtube .. .be right back, you can thank me later!

5) The Prestige Cruise Club - well if we're going to do it, we may as well do it in style! This is owned by the same company however the cruise liners are more luxurious with super posh suites and lots of restaurants to choose from. If reading this has got you in holiday mode - check out my summer holiday beauty essentials.

So there we have it, some perfect honeymoon destination ideas! Like I said, I'm not going anywhere just yet but it's always good to have a look at the different places and prices that are available. I'm interested to know if you've ever been on a cruise before or whether it's not quite your thing? x

Dreaming Of Spring Days

Nails //  Photo Frame // Bralette // Cushion // Dolce Perfume // Magnet Photo Frame // Candle //
Boots // Dress //

We're almost entering into February now, meaning that Valentine's Day is coming up and also we're making our way towards Spring, so I thought I'd make a floral wishlist. I'd forgotten how much I love finding things to create wishlists, it's a bit like an online scrapbook that doesn't involve glue and scissors! As you can see above, I've filled this wishlist with lovely, pretty floral items which I adore. I've always been a huge fan of florals as they just never go out of fashion! I decided to include some homeware items in this wishlist too - which are all bargains! I also love these Miss Selfridge shoes (which I know for a fact I wouldn't be able to walk in!) - apparantly they are a bloggers favourite and are now sold out but I've been out of the loop lately so I've found a link to an ebay seller you can buy them from. I couldn't make a floral wishlist without including a stunning dress which I have chosen from their going out dresses range. No floral outfit would be complete without nails to match and a light perfume to accessorize.

Are you looking forward to Spring? x

My Marquee LED Love Light

Marquee and LED lights are all over the home ware shops at the moment and I absolutely love this trend. I'm a sucker for a cute item which not only spruces the room up but will literally light it up too. I'm a huge fan of 'love' and 'home' plaques, so when I saw this 'Love' LED marquee light for a bargain price of just £10.00 - I added it to my basket straight away and the next day it was taking pride of place on my fireplace! Being white, it's completely versatile for any room and can be placed on a shelf, fireplace, coffee or bedside table - it will fit in cosily anywhere! What I love the most about LED lights and candles is how it creates such a calming effect. I know that I am home and ready to relax when my lights are switched on, my candles are lit and my TV is on ready to watch my favourite programmes - and that's when I am my calmest.

I bought this light from Asda for a very reasonable price and in fairness it came wrapped up so tight it was like pass the parcel! Have you seen in weddings lately, a lot of people tend to have the huge LED love letters or their initials instead? Well I think that looks fabulous and is something I definitely want to have at my own wedding! This miniature version means that I get to see it everyday and only needs two batteries to keep it going. I thought I'd also show you how it looks when the main lights are off - it's so cute!

Yankee Candle's New 'Home Inspiration' Range

Ever since moving out, I've become a huge lover of candles. I've always been a little nervy around matches and never used to light candles in my bedroom but my partner has a gas lighter which means I don't have to worry about playing with matches anymore - cue my new obsession with candles. I tend to go through phases - I'll hoard shampoos, lipsticks and most recently - candles! My current favourites are using wax melts in my wax burner and I've also picked up a few bargain candles from B&M too. I can also recommend a candle company called Wickford & Co which are stocked in Home Bargains priced at an amazing £2.99 for a large jar! The scent fills the house too. With my new love of candles in mind and my 'new' home blog, I thought I'd show you some stunning new scents from Yankee Candle's Home Inspiration Range. All large jars cost £13 and there are also mini votives and wax melts available too if you're looking for something cheaper. So, what are the new scents?

All new scents seem perfect for the upcoming spring months - hopefully bringing us a little more sunshine and less gloomy mornings! I love the pastel packaging of the candles and I think I'll try out the Strawberries & Cream scent first - they all sound too good to be true! x

My Living Room Tour: Part One

Since moving into my first ever home that is just mine and my fiancee's (can't get used to saying that yet) - I've decided that not only do I want to get back into some of my hobbies, but I'd definitely like to get back into blogging again. I want to try and turn this into a more home themed blog with tips that I would have found useful when I was saving to move out and general snippets of my new home life but I think I'll also be adding beauty here and there as well as wishlists etc. To kick off my new home posts, I thought I'd show you my favourite room of our house - the living room! When we moved in it was squeaky clean with a very simple decor of white walls and furniture, it looked gorgeous and sleek but it wasn't quite for us. We opted for a light grey paint on all four walls and we repainted the staircase in white to freshen it up a little. I have tried to include all links where I can in case you see anything you like, but some items aren't available online anymore.

In the centre of our living room, we have a plain white IKEA coffee table which is perfect to brighten up the room and of course to use as storage! I couldn't quite decide how to jazz it up enough just so that it would add some glamour to the white surface, but I eventually decided on this little get up. My mum bought me this silver glitter tray from Dunelm (you'll soon realise that silver glitter is the theme for our living room!) and I decided to add my favourite accessories. My partner bought me the home sweet home candles from B&M when we first moved in as a suprise gift so I really treasure it and like to keep it on display. I then added this lovely star quote from Dunelm which is a quote I should definitely live by and these gorgeous love arrangement faux flowers which were in the sale in Dunelm.

We bought our corner sofa from DFS, with the silver and grey theme in mind. In all honesty, I didn't think there was a massive amount of choice from DFS when we first visited, but I knew that this would suit the living room perfectly and I do love a corner sofa! The cushions come as part of a sofa and I think they help complete the look - but I'm thinking of adding some of my own too for added effect. We also have the matching cuddle chair which is amazing! It's my favourite place to put my feet up after work and relax. The good thing about buying your sofa from DFS is that you can put it on a 0% finance loan for 4 years, so you dont' have to worry about paying upfront or paying interest.

Next to our sofa, we have a bargain side table from IKEA (we pretty much bought the whole shop!) I tend to hide my handbag underneath it and on top I added this sparkly silver lamp from Argos, which is perfect for making the living room look cosy without the brighter main light. We also have my wax melt burner which is perfect for me as I didn't used to be confident with candles (although I am getting better lately!) and there are so many different wax melts to choose from without having to splash out on a larger candle. I picked up this little white post holder from B&M for just £1.99 and thought it would be great to pop any letters in rather than dumping them on the table like I normally do!

My fireplace is often chopped and changed around by myself depending what mood I am in, but I think I am happy with it currently! I love my silver glitter 'love' and 'home' signs which are another bargain from B&M! (That's my current favourite shop!). I also have our initial candles from Asda which were very affordable and I bought these months ago before we had even chosen a house! We have our TV mounted to the wall which I love as it saves us on storage and it's like having our own mini cinema! I have some false flowers in the centre, two silver sparkle photo frames with one photo of my family and one photo of my partner's family. Next to that we have my PS4, my lovely cat ornament, silver star and cat ring holder.

I absolutely love my wall shelf which stands next to our fireplace. At first I had absolutely no idea what to put on the shelf but I soon began adding my favourite silver accessories. I added some gorgeous silver photo frames from Next with photos of us over the past six years. I have a glittery calendar block from New Look (which I tend to update about once a week!!). I also have a mantlepiece clock which I tend to move about quite often but I love it as it's got such a sparkle to it  up close. Next to my photo frames, I added some LED silver glitter candles.

I hope you enjoyed my living room tour and I still have more bits and bobs to show you around the room so I think I am going to write up a part two!

Sweet Dreams Returns.

Am I finally ready to return to my blog? I think that I am but I've decided that there's some things that I would like to change. Firstly, I'd like to focus less on beauty and focus more on home and lifestyle, always as general things that I am enjoying lately such as reading, wellbeing and general lifestyle ideas that are interesting me. I don't want to be focused on followers, how many people are reading and I also want to keep the blog focussed not so much on beauty (despite the Sweet Dreams Beauty name!). I'm not saying that I will cut out beauty completely, I will still be writing reviews when I get the chance and showing you any of my favourite products, but I think it's important too that I show other aspects of my life as in a way, a blog is like a public diary - somewhere you can go to escape, share your favourite things and also meet others who are just like you. I have never given up on this blog because I've spent so much time and effort working on it and loved every minute of it, but I also feel that part of me has grown up from it now - which is why I want to try and add some more lifestyle themes that are more relevant to my life now. I'm a nosy parker and love reading about who is behind the blog, so seeing as I've been away for over six months, it's about time I filled you in about what's been going on.

In September, my partner and I got the keys to our very first home. This is something that we have worked for years for and was always an amibition of ours to have a cosy home that would be just for us two, all off our own backs. As with any move, it was pretty stressful due to all the solicitors work, mortgage applications, IKEA trips and never ending bills - but it's all been worth it. I won't talk too much about the house as I did discuss it in my previous 'Where have I been?' post. You can also hear more about my two gorgeous yet mischievous kittens, Arnold & Sylvester.

We got engaged!
Typing this still feels so strange! We have been together for six years in March and I always knew that one day we would get married but I had no idea when and in all honestly it wasn't on my mind. So, it came as a complete shock on Christmas morning (our first ever Christmas in our house) when he proposed to me completely out of the blue which a beautiful engagement ring. I am so happy and am smiling as I read this as I feel like it's the next step in our relationship and I'm so glad that we have each other. We haven't started wedding planning, just a few rough ideas and we are hoping to get married in either 2018 or 2019. I will keep you updated. Also if you're in the mood for reading about weddings, my gorgeous sister is rather obsessed with them (luckily for me!) and she has set up her very own wedding blog - A Pretty Little Wedding.

Hope you've all been well - I've got lots of blog reading to catch up on! x
